Can you imagine using four testosterone esters together? Sustanon 250 makes that possible. Make no mistake: this is a great steroid to use, and for some bodybuilders, it’s the preferred form of testosterone. On the other side of the coin, there are some guys who don’t like it at all.

So, is Sustanon 250 a good choice for you? Everything you need to know about Sustanon 250 is right here in my guide! Now, let’s get started.

What is Sustanon 250?

This might be one of the most misunderstood AAS out there. But it’s very simple: Sustanon 250 is a testosterone steroid and should be thought of the same way as any other form of testosterone when it comes to what it can do for us as bodybuilders.

Sustanon 250 AAS
Sustanon 250 AAS

Sustanon 250 gives you four testosterone esters in one injection:

  • Propionate
  • Phenylpropionate
  • Isocaproate
  • Decanoate

Besides the Propionate ester, the other three are not used or available as standalone testosterone esters as they were developed for this mixed formula. Like all testosterone steroids, Sustanon 250 is versatile, can be run independently or stacked with other AAS, and can be used in different steroid cycles.

History and Overview

Sustanon 250 is the brand name for the combined formula of the four testosterone esters mentioned above. This should not be confused with another similar product called Sustanon 100 (containing three esters), which is not widely available outside India.

In the UK and some other countries, Sustanon 250 is still the preferred TRT product; in those countries, it can be quite affordable. It’s also a popular option among bodybuilders in the US and elsewhere; however, it has never been approved for medical use in the United States.

Different manufacturers will use other carrier oils in the injectable solution. In the UK, where Sustanon 250 is available as a prescription TRT product, the carrier oil is often peanut oil – so those allergic to peanuts or other products should always check to confirm what carrier oil is used before buying or using Sustanon 250.

Mechanism of Action

Combining four esters gives you a unique testosterone steroid because we combine both fast-acting and slow-acting (long-lasting) esters in Sustanon 250.

But Sustanon 250 is still testosterone in its original form! This means it works exactly the same as any other standard testosterone steroid, with each ester taking a different length of time to detach from the hormone.

Where does the 250 in the name Sustanon come from? You might be wondering. It’s simple: the blend of the four above esters combine for a total of 250mg of testosterone per 1 ml of the solution as follows.

  • Testosterone Propionate 30mg
  • Testosterone Phenylpropionate 60mg
  • Testosterone Isocaproate 60mg
  • Testosterone Decanoate 100mg

Put simply, Sustanon 250 provides you with all the anabolic and androgenic activity of testosterone. While the androgenic actions are not what we as bodybuilders are looking for (but do need to be aware of as side effects), it’s the anabolic mechanisms of action of testosterone that interest us. These include:

  • Increasing nitrogen retention
  • Boosting red blood cell count
  • Increased protein synthesis
  • Higher levels of Insulin-Like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1)
  • Reduced stress hormones

The functions all contribute to the primary reasons we use Sustanon 250: to gain lean muscle and strength.

Effects of Sustanon 250 (Benefits)

Suppose you’re familiar with the effects of any testosterone steroid (such as enanthate or cypionate). In that case, you will have a very good idea of what to expect with Sustanon 250: essentially, the effects will be what testosterone can provide.

And provide it does! Testosterone, including the four-in-one Sustanon 250, is the safest anabolic steroid men can use – even at higher doses.

Here’s the deal: The extent of your performance and physique benefits with Sustanon 250 will be very dose-dependent. They’ll also be dependent on:

  • Your current weight and body condition
  • Your age and how long you’ve been working out for
  • If it’s your first steroid cycle or not
  • Your diet
  • Your training regime
  • Your genetics

With all of these factors in mind, let’s look at the main benefits and effects of Sustanon 250 that interest us as bodybuilders:

Muscle Growth

The reason why most of us are using Sustanon 250 is to build more muscle at a faster rate. With increased protein synthesis and nitrogen retention, Sustanon 250 enhances your body’s primary mechanisms of promoting lean muscle growth when used at doses above TRT.

Combined with a high-quality calorie surplus diet and regular resistance training, it’s not if your muscles will grow but just how much you can gain on a cycle (the factors I listed above will play a significant role in this).

Strength Gains

Testosterone itself increases the muscular strength of the male body, and with a higher dose comes a higher level of muscle strength. Although Sustanon 250 is not what we’d call a strength-boosting monster, you will notice a significant improvement and find it easier to lift heavier weights and push through longer and harder sets.

Faster Recovery

Recovering quicker allows you to work out the same muscles more often than usual. This leads to faster gains thanks to Sustanon 250, boosting your red blood cell count and increasing the oxygen carried through the blood and to the muscles.

Anti-Catabolic Benefits

Sustanon 250 will help prevent the breakdown of muscle tissue by reducing the stress hormone cortisol (also a catabolic hormone). Not only is muscle preserved, but this function also prevents increased body fat.

Some additional benefits that are very welcome with Sustanon 250 include:

  • An increase in bone strength and density
  • Enhanced mood and mental energy
  • Fat loss
  • Increased vascularity and muscle pumps

Sustanon 250 Dosing and Administration

Sustanon is a compound that you’ll want to get the dosing and administration as precise and tuned in for your needs as closely as possible.

This is important with Sustanon 250 in particular because if you go into using this steroid without fine-tuning when and how often you take it, your entire Sustanon experience can be a negative one. Not because the steroid is terrible but because poor administration practices can lead to undesirable peaks and troughs or unnecessary side effects.

With testosterone, including Sustanon 250, being an established TRT treatment for male hypogonadism and other conditions, modern-day use (including self-prescribing) has essentially replaced most clinical studies.

With regular blood testing and hormone level monitoring, men have established an accurate TRT dose for each need. Generally, this will range from 100mg to 200mg per week. Some men take lower than this range; others may need a higher dose to get testosterone levels back into the upper end of their age-relevant normal range.

Performance doses of Sustanon 250 are a different story altogether. We are not just looking to maintain natural testosterone levels as in TRT (unless you only want a testosterone base) but to take advantage of the anabolic effects of increased hormone levels. Here are some basic guidelines for doses of Sustanon to consider for all levels of bodybuilders:

Virtually every male aged 25 and over can use 500mg per week of Sustanon comfortably and often deal with no side effects. This is a highly tolerable dose that will deliver exceptional results and is considered one of the (if not THE) safest steroid cycles you can do. Gains of 10-15lbs over 16 weeks are possible for first-time users.

Taking the dose to 600mg per week puts you in what many consider the sweet spot of testosterone use. 750mg per week is often recommended, and I would not hesitate to take that amount of Sustanon. The only downside is that some of us find diminishing returns after 600mg, so you must work harder to make the same gain rate as you take the higher dose.

Advanced testosterone users, including Sustanon 250, take the dose to 1000mg and beyond.

Many will argue that 1000mg is not an exceptionally high dose. Most of us can tolerate 1000mg per week very well; remember that this is your body’s natural testosterone hormone, and we can consider doses you would never dream of with any other AAS. 2000mg per week would be a very advanced dose of Sustanon, and realistically, you’d want a very good reason to see a need to take that amount.

Those of us looking for more significant benefits that high-dose testosterone can provide will almost always turn to stacking as the preferred option – not only does stacking allow you to use less Sustanon 250, but you introduce a new set of effects and results from combining different types of AAS.

Dosing Schedule, Half-life, and Cycle Length

Each of the four esters in Sustanon 250 has a different half-life. This means they will kick in at a different stage and exit your body at different intervals. Sustanon 250 is typically injected twice per week by bodybuilders, but many (in fact, most users) will go for every other day injections to maintain a peak level and to avoid having the short-acting esters reduce in levels.

The longest ester results in Sustanon 250 having a half-life of around 15 days; however, we need to remember that by the time that point arrives, the smaller esters have already left your body – hence the need for more regular injections. With this length of half-life, you also need to commit to using Sustanon 250 for a relatively long cycle to make it worthwhile.

At a bare minimum? You will be looking at a 10-week cycle. But I prefer a 14-week cycle at least. This gives those slower-release esters enough time to kick in and do their job.

The good news is that, unlike many other harsher steroids, we can easily use Sustanon 250 (and any testosterone steroid) for well beyond 14 weeks safely and with minimal issues with side effects. We don’t have to worry about liver toxicity or severe stress to the cardiovascular system when using Sustanon 250 for longer cycles, even at reasonably higher doses.

Sustanon 250 for TRT

Sustanon 250 is often chosen for TRT purposes over single ester testosterone. A big benefit of Sustanon for testosterone replacement is to minimize the variations or ups and downs in your testosterone levels day by day – as long as you’re injecting it on a regular schedule.

What’s a regular schedule? If you’re self-administering TRT and don’t have a doctor’s advice, then a twice-weekly schedule works perfectly for many men.

Testosterone Enanthate is still a favorite for TRT with many men, but then there is a large cohort who swear by Sustanon and won’t use anything else. The difference in opinion could come down to how people administer it – specifically, how often. Without shorter interval injections (no more than five days apart), you can get additional estrogen-related side effects appearing with Sustanon, even at low TRT doses. Water retention and acne are complaints I hear about.

The key to any successful TRT protocol is to get your blood regularly checked to monitor what your T levels are doing so you can adjust your Sustanon dose as needed until you’re in a place where your hormone levels are stable and you feel good all the time.

As far as dosing Sustanon 250 for TRT purposes?

The main goal of TRT is to get your testosterone levels back to the middle of the normal reference range, but some men will aim for the higher end of the range – and this range will change depending on your age. On average, the normal range is between 400 and 700ng/dL. This can mean doses as low as 50mg per week for some men, while others need 250mg weekly or higher.

Sustanon 250 Cycles

As different as it might initially seem, Sustanon 250 is still a regular testosterone steroid, which means it’s very versatile. You will find it helpful in just about any cycle. However, we (males) predominantly use it for bulking or as a testosterone base at lower doses when using other suppressive anabolic steroids.

It goes without saying that Sustanon 250 can be hazardous for females to use at performance doses, with serious side effects a near certainty.

Author Note: I’m currently using Testo-Max by Crazy Bulk. It’s an ideal swap for your risk-laden Sustanon 250 (Testosterone). The stuff truly works!

Sustanon 250 Cycle for Men

Sustanon 250 is useful for bulking and cutting cycles, but it will mainly be used to gain mass by men. Suppose you use Sustanon 250 in a cutting cycle. In that case, its primary purpose is typically to act as a testosterone base and maintain strength and lean muscle while dieting and losing fat.

Gains will depend heavily on how many cycles you’ve already done, but is it your first time using Sustanon 250?

Lean gains of 10lbs to 20lbs are possible; your goal should be at the upper end near 20lbs. Strength and pumps will have you feeling on top of the world. The shorter esters in Sustanon will kick in early, so the effects become noticeable within the first two weeks.

Virtually all men who use a form of testosterone at performance doses will have a positive experience simply because we know what to expect with this steroid, and it does not fall into the extremes at either end.

Most men find that their mood improves – their outlook on life becomes more positive and motivated, and confidence increases. This is a nice bonus benefit we don’t often consider until we are on a cycle.

Plenty of guys on their first Sustanon 250 cycle gloat about gaining almost 20 lbs, plus boosting lifted weights substantially is widespread – being able to squat 80 lbs or more than previously is a shared experience.

Sustanon can be a divisive AAS, and you will find guys who don’t like using it. Some of the main complaints I see go along the lines of:

  • I do not feel like there’s a consistent release and level of testosterone day by day.
  • Some find that there’s extra bloat compared to other testosterone esters.

It’s important to realize that these are individual experiences and will almost always result from inconsistency in dosing and not adequately using an AI or other ancillaries. Bunk gear can also destroy your cycle.

Men who find that Sustanon 250 is too challenging to use will rarely see the same issues that occur with single-ester forms of testosterone.

Sustanon 250 Cycle for Women

Women who use any testosterone AAS, including Sustanon 250, will undoubtedly suffer from virilizing side effects. The only question will be how bad it will be and what dosage can be tolerated before the virilization becomes prominent. In most cases? Women taking anything above 10-20mg of Sustanon will start seeing masculine traits developing.

However, females who choose to use Sustanon will be well aware of these risks and can often find the trade-off is worth it for the lean muscle and physique transformation that can be achieved. This will almost exclusively be the most serious bodybuilders and physique models who want to take their bodies well beyond what a female could otherwise achieve, even with much more tolerable AAS like Anavar.

Women using Sustanon 250 can expect significant lean muscle gains, increased muscle definition, vascularity, and notable fat loss.

Very few females will use Sustanon 250, preferring to stick with short-acting single-ester forms that clear the body quickly; therefore, very few anecdotes and experiences are shared by any women who might use this AAS.

Sustanon 250 vs. Other PEDs

There’s a lot to consider if you’re still deciding between using Sustanon or single-ester testosterone. Ultimately, it will come down to the type of cycle or stack you plan to run and how often you’re comfortable injecting.

But there’s also plenty of other AAS we can compare Sustanon 250 to as well. Many of these will be compounds that stack well with Sustanon, but let’s face it, you can stack just about anything with testosterone.

The more you know about the effects of other PEDs, the better position you will be in to create the most awesome stacks for the best results and manageable side effects.

Sustanon 250 vs. Testosterone Enanthate

You are not alone if you’re still stuck between choosing Sustanon 250 or Testosterone Enanthate. This is a dilemma most of us spend time pondering.

Testosterone AAS
Testosterone Enanthate AAS

Ultimately? The results will be very similar. After all, both are standard testosterone, and once they kick in, you get the same effects:

  • Price is one deciding factor: Sustanon 250 is the cheaper option in some countries.
  • Injection frequency is what I consider most important: if you want to do every other day injections with Sustanon 250 as many of us do, you’ll be injecting more often than with Test E, and this is not everyone’s cup of tea.

Testosterone enanthate is going to be easier to maintain stable levels with simply because you don’t have four esters to balance. Ultimately, both are exceptional AAS with the same effects and results: your choice will come down to your preferences with injecting and cost/availability where you live.

Sustanon 250 vs. Equipoise

Comparing Sustanon 250 to Equipoise (Boldenone) is worth comparing because EQ is derived from testosterone.

Equipoise AAS
Equipoise AAS

Equipoise comes with reduced androgenic and estrogenic activity compared to Sustanon 250. Like Sustanon 250, Equipoise can provide excellent muscle and strength gains, but EQ is even more suited to cutting cycles thanks to its minimal water retention. You can expect a drier, more vascular result with Equipoise than with Sustanon 250.

With Equipoise being a tolerable steroid, it’s one of the few besides testosterone that I recommend for beginners to AAS – but stacking these two compounds together on a long cycle of 16+ weeks can also produce impressive results.

Stacking Sustanon 250

It should be run for 12 weeks or longer cycles to get the most out of Sustanon. This is to give time for the slower-acting esters to take effect to make Sustanon worth using.

Even though Sustanon 250 contains fast-acting esters that will start working very early in your cycle, it’s still often worth doing a stack with a kickstart compound – or another AAS that begins working more quickly – to achieve more substantial results early on.

Sustanon 250 + Primobolan (Lean Bulking or Recomp Stack)

This slow and steady stack will deliver nice lean gains over time and some fat loss, depending on your diet. While your gains won’t be extreme, this is a popular stack for anyone wanting solid gains with very manageable side effects. As a bonus, Primobolan can replace the use of an AI in this stack in most cases.

  • Steady lean muscle gains
  • Increased strength
  • Fat loss
  • Faster recovery
  • Little to no water retention
  • Vascular, dry physique
  • Better mood

  • Primobolan: 400mg/week
  • Sustanon: 500mg/week
  • Cycle length: 20 weeks

Possible side effects

  • Testosterone suppression
  • Minor cholesterol changes
  • Hair loss
  • Acne

Water retention should be minimal or non-existent on this stack, with Primobolan promoting a dry, lean, and vascular physique and a moderate Sustanon dose that should keep fluid retention at bay. Expect your gains to be slow and steady over the 20 weeks, with a pumped and full feeling as gains are made. Muscle hardness will be noticeable, although not at the level of Winstrol or Masteron.

With Primobolan’s long half-life, it will take around two weeks before you can start PCT after your last dose. Then, a 6-week Enclomiphene PCT: 25mg per day for five weeks, 12.5mg per day for one week.

Sustanon 250 + Trenbolone + Anadrol (Bulking Stack)

This is a serious stack if you want significant gains and if you can handle using Trenbolone (make sure you’ve got experience with Tren before trying this stack). Expect fast results on this cycle. Sustanon and Trenbolone can be combined into the same syringe if you go for a three-times weekly injection schedule.

Note: This stack is for advanced users only! This is one of the most potent stacks you can do.

  • Huge mass gains
  • Massive strength
  • Fat loss
  • Increased endurance
  • Quick results
  • Improved bone density
  • Quicker recovery

  • Week 1-4: Anadrol 50-100mg/day
  • Week 1-10: Trenbolone 300mg/week
  • Week 1-12: Sustanon 600mg/week
  • Cycle length: 12 weeks

Possible side effects

  • Liver toxicity
  • Testosterone suppression
  • Severe cardiovascular stress (cholesterol)
  • Water retention
  • Acne and hair loss
  • Moodiness and anger/aggression
  • Lower back pumps

This rapid mass-gaining stack uses Anadrol for the first three weeks only (it is not recommended to use it longer due to strong liver toxicity!). Water retention can be an issue, but it will also add to the full, pumped look you can achieve. You’ll look huge 24/7, and results will kick in very early, with Anadrol’s effects kicking off the cycle.

Enclomiphene at 25mg daily for five weeks and 12.5mg daily for the final week.

Sustanon 250 + Anavar (Cutting Stack)

Anavar is a favored cutting steroid, but being an oral steroid, its use needs to be limited to shorter cycles. This can make it somewhat challenging to stack with Sustanon 250, which should be used for more extended periods. However, we can run this cycle for 12 weeks with a moderate dose of Sustanon 250 and get the benefits of Anavar with minimal water retention.

  • Muscle hardening and vascularity
  • More strength
  • Some lean gains
  • Fat loss
  • Nice pumps

  • Anavar: Weeks 1-8 30-50mg/day
  • Sustanon 250: Weeks 1-12 500mg/week
  • Cycle length: 12 weeks

Possible side effects

  • Testosterone Suppression
  • Water retention
  • Increased cholesterol
  • Kidney and liver stress
  • Hair loss and acne
  • Unwanted pumps, e.g., in the lower back

It’s possible to gain some muscle on this cycle, depending on how hard you plan to diet. Muscle hardness will be substantial with Anavar, and as long as water retention can be kept to a minimum, expect a dry, shredded physique by the end of the eight weeks of Anavar use.

Enclomiphene: 25mg for three weeks, 12.5mg for one week.

Sustanon 250 PCT

Sustanon 250 will suppress and potentially shut down your natural testosterone function. As we often stack testosterone with other suppressive compounds, testosterone shutdown is almost certain with most steroid cycles, and therefore, PCT should be part of your cycle planning.

Previously, we relied upon Clomid and Nolvadex almost exclusively for our SERMs use in PCT. But with the newer Enclomiphene available and it being both more effective at resorting testosterone and coming with reduced side effect risk, it is now my preferred SERM most of the time.

Generally speaking, my most basic PCT consists of using Enclomiphene at 25mg per day for the first 3 to 5 weeks, then halving the dose for the final one to two weeks (depending on how shut down you are and what AAS were used, as well as whether or not you used HCG on cycle).

There’s much more to know about PCT; it is in my main PCT guide here.

Sustanon 250 Side Effects

Sustanon 250 will come with the same list of side effects that you can experience with any testosterone steroid. Any differences will be in the timing of the onset of adverse effects (if any).

While the types of side effects are going to be identical as with single testosterone esters, some Sustanon 250 users find that this compound can produce differing severity of unwanted effects like water retention compared to the same dose of single ester testosterone. Some guys find Sustanon 250 a drier compound, while others find water retention is worse with Sustanon 250.

The combination of esters and their different onset of effects, plus the frequency of injections, can potentially impact estrogen levels – throw in the fact of whether you’re using an AI or not (and at what dose), and you have a recipe for more erratic side effects.

One thing is sure, though:

If you’ve experienced side effects with a similar dose of any testosterone steroid, then you’re likely to see the same thing happen with this one.

Possible Side Effects for Men

Here are the primary side effects you need to watch out for when using Sustanon 250:

Testosterone Suppression

Your endogenous testosterone production will be suppressed while taking Sustanon 250, which can decrease testicle size. PCT is required after your Sustanon cycle to restore regular testicular function and avoid the debilitating effects of low testosterone.

Water Retention

Most guys won’t see severe water retention, but some individuals will suffer more than others with holding water. Using a low-dose AI can help, but you need to be mindful of estrogen levels and preferably monitor all hormone levels with bloodwork.

Acne and Hair Loss

Both acne and loss of head hair are androgenic side effects that are highly individualistic. Some men will see no issues in this area, while others who are genetically prone to either acne or male pattern baldness can find they occur anywhere from mildly to severely.

An increase in LDL cholesterol is possible, although Sustanon 250 does not have such a severe effect on the cardiovascular system compared to the more harsh AAS we can use. A cholesterol-friendly diet is always helpful when on any AAS cycle.

Possible Side Effects for Women

You might be wondering about the side effects of Sustanon 250 for women. Females naturally have a very low level of endogenous testosterone, but any form of exogenous testosterone will place women at particular risk of virilization. This includes:

  • A deepening of the voice
  • Clitoral enlargement
  • Body and facial hair growth
  • Changes to the menstrual cycle

Check out my article here for a more detailed guide about Sustanon and AAS side effects and the best ways to mitigate them.

Where to Buy Sustanon 250?

Sustanon 250 is still a commonly used form of testosterone and is widely available from most AAS suppliers. Whether you can access pharmaceutical grade (brand name or generic), Sustanon 250 will significantly depend on where you live or where (and if) you can import it.

So, where to buy it? You can buy safe and legal Sustanon 250 from Crazy Bulk (the best AAS supplier). Give it a try – the stuff truly works!!

Availability of Sustanon 250

Most users will find Sustanon 250 relatively easy to source and purchase. Different manufacturers sell generic pharmaceutical products, some of the highest quality Sustanon you can get.

Alternatively, some of us will need to purchase from underground lab suppliers. These can vary substantially in quality from the excellent right down to the very poor, under-dosed, or contaminated.

Buying Sustanon 250 from UGL requires us to be even more careful because of the precise amount of each of the four testosterone esters in this formula. If a UGL does not dose your Sustanon 250 accurately and with the correct esters, then you are not receiving Sustanon 250.

Sustanon 250 is an anabolic steroid in the same category as all other testosterone types.

  • In the United States and Australia, Sustanon 250 is not legally allowed to be purchased or used, and penalties can apply.
  • In many other countries, including Canada and the UK, Sustanon 250 is legal to possess and use without a prescription for personal use only.

However, professional athletes and those competing where anti-doping rules apply will find that Sustanon 250 is completely prohibited.

It’s a banned substance by WADA and all other sporting authorities – testing positive for Sustanon 250 as an athlete is something you’ll want to avoid at all costs.

Typical Pricing

If you have a prescription for Sustanon 250 for TRT use in the UK and other countries where this AAS is commonly used medically, then you can purchase Sustanon 250 for a meager cost. For the rest of us, this is a steroid that we typically need to buy on the black market.

Unfortunately, it’s known as AAS, which is very commonly counterfeited, so there are a lot of fakes out there that you want to avoid. While these fakes are usually still testosterone steroids, many will not be made up of the four esters at the precise concentration that makes Sustanon 250 what it is.

The cost of Sustanon 250 for you will be mainly determined by where you live and what suppliers you have access to. It is more expensive than Testosterone enanthate and other more popular esters in most locations. Getting pharmaceutical-grade Sustanon 250 can be more of a challenge; often, we’ll need to resort to underground labs.

If you have a good UGL supplier, you can find good quality Sustanon 250 for $20 or less per 1ml ampoule. Even lower-quality suppliers will sell for a similar price, which means buyers beware! I always say you don’t judge the quality of your AAS by cost but instead by reputation (word of mouth from your local contacts is worth its weight in gold when it comes to finding quality gear!).

Final Thoughts

Sustanon 250 can be more challenging to use than single testosterone esters, and it can require more thought in planning your cycles and monitoring to keep stable levels. This is still a prevalent form of testosterone both in bodybuilding circles and with men who only self-administer testosterone for TRT purposes.

Is Sustanon 250 the right choice for your next steroid cycle?

Put it this way: if injections don’t scare you away every other day, you’ll enjoy the results of Sustanon 250 just as much as you would any other Test ester. For those looking for less frequent pinning, you will find that Testosterone Cypionate is the way to go. Ultimately, you can expect the same results by taking a slightly different route to get there.
